I wanted to post a quick update on what is going on in my life currently.
If you haven't noticed, Texas (the state I live in) is going through a lot with the winter weather. My family and I were without power for about 36 hours, and our water heater ruptured 4 hours before the power turned back on. The situation is slowly getting better as we've regained power and running water (but no hot water yet). Truthfully, we were really lucky all things considering.
On the reading side, I am struggling to connect with some books lately. I've been reading the "All Souls" Trilogy (technically not a YA novel, but there's no explicit sex scenes - which I've found is A LOT of YA novels surprisingly), but my motivation to read is low. I'm currently on the second book, "Shadow of Night". I'm still deciding on either reviewing the series as a whole or individually. I'm weighing this decision because this is the type of books that you need to read all of them to get the whole picture/journey of their character arcs. On the other hand, the "All Souls" Trilogy has a lot of information to shift through and digest, and long with new characters introduced in each novel. I'm talking enough characters for Harkness to have a reference index in the back of her novels for you to refer to in case you forget who is who.
I have other books on the way to help with my slump, but they are delayed due to the weather and road conditions. There's also the fact that two of the books are not in the Young Adult category, and won't be reviewed on the blog due to the nature of the books. However, I have ordered V.E. Schwab's series, "Shades of Magic", which sound truly compelling.
I've also ordered SJM's "A Court of Silver Flames" because that particular series as always inspired me to read and write, even though SJM's writing can be problematic (I might write a blog post about that in the future or a general one about YA tropes that annoy me).
Hopefully, I'll be finishing the "All Souls" Trilogy soon and I'll be posting the review(s). I also plan on revisiting SJM's "A Court of Thorns and Roses" series and writing reviews for them, which I probably won't do until I get my hands on my elusive copy of "A Court of Silver Flames" (not to mention find my copy of the first novel that hidden somewhere on my bookshelf).
I hope everyone is staying safe and doing well!!
